The small thornless peyote cactus (Lophophora williamsii)   originates from the south of Texas and northern Mexico. The plant is a very important religious sacrament in many native American cultures of Central and North-America. In Mexico the cactus is also sold as a medicine against blindness, fever and many other diseases.

The active alkaloids of the Peyote cactus are:

Effects
It may take a while before the peyote cacti start to work, but then it could be one of the most beautiful and divine experiences you will ever have. Mescaline is somewhat similar to LSD-25, but it is more soft, colourful, warmer and nicer. Sometimes you can travel through time and space, or communicate with your own spirit. The Peyote trip is stronger than the San Pedro trip, but so is the initial nausea. A trip can last 6 to 12 hours.

Usage
The traditional way of consuming is to eat the cactus. You also have to eat the root, and chew for a long time because your saliva takes up the mescaline. An other way to consume the Peyote cacti is to make tea of them. Cut them in little pieces and boil them for half an hour and drink the liquid. It's also possible to dry the cactus. Cut it into slices and put it in a oven on 50°C for 4 or 5 hours. Then you can eat the slices. Peyote cacti are best eaten on an empty stomach. Try not to eat 6 hours before consuming the cati. The cacti taste very bitter. The bitterness can be masked by drinking some sour fruit juice like grapefruit or pineapple juice. You might feel a little nausea before the trip begins. Some people say this can be avoided by eating ginger. If you choose to let the peyote cactus grow for a couple of years, please note that it is a difficult plant that grows very slowly. It needs a lot of sunlight and a little water.
Dosage It is difficult to indicate how much mescaline one peyote cactus contains, as this depends on its age and growing conditions. The bigger and older a cactus, the more mescaline it contains. An average peyote dosage is about 12-30 gr, which is the equivalent of about 6-15 (or more) cacti of 2 gr. Remember that potency can vary greatly. Therefore it is best not to take the dosage all at once, but to build up the dosage gradually: take half of the dosage, wait an 60 to 90 minutes to see what the effect is, then if desired take half of what is left over and if necessary repeat. A Peyote trip takes about two to two and a half hours to peak.
Mescaline dosages:

150 mg	threshold dosage.
150 - 300 mg	light to moderate dosage
300 - 400 mg	strong trip, last 6 - 12 hours
450 - 500 mg	possible ego dissolution, trip will last about 12 hours
500 - 600 mg	definite ego dissolution, trip can last up to 24 hours
